Ascension: #8 Takes Flight

This was my third Kobe Bryant mural, painted entirely in spray paint. It captures the energy of one of his most iconic moments—the reverse slam from his early years as #8, Afro in motion—reimagined in a cosmic setting. In this piece, Kobe is seen lifting off from Earth, launching into the stars, and slamming the ball into the vastness of space. Painted on a black door that anchors the wall, is one of Kobe's most powerful quotes: “I have pretty much done all I can here and, you know, God will carry me the rest of the way so I’m pretty comfortable with that.” This quote shaped the entire mood of the mural. I didn’t want to just depict his athleticism—I wanted to honor his evolution, his surrender, and his eternal presence beyond the physical world. It’s not just a dunk—it’s a departure, a transcendence, a legacy still in flight.
